Magnetic field of parallel and twisted wire pairs
This paper presents a study of the magnetic fields produced by electrical conductors carrying electric current in two situations: two power cables in a parallel configuration and in a twisted configuration. Analytical relationships are shown on the magnetic field of the two configurations relative to the field produced by a single conductor. Analytical results are compared with the results of numerical simulations.
The interaction of magnetic field with some electrical devices is known since the early years of electrical industry development. In 1879 appeared the first piece of information on the magnetic field action upon non-electrical, time measuring instruments, years before the generalization of bipolar electrical installations in residential lighting (in 1882) and the industrial use of electricity generators . These are the first information on ensuring compatibility between electromagnetic field and mechanical, non-electromagnetic, measurement instruments, in the recalled case, the horologes.
